65 Suspects Are Detained By The EFCC For Allegedly Inducing Votes.

On Saturday, 65 people were detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in 28 states for allegedly inducing votes in the gubernatorial and houses of assembly elections.

This is stated in a statement made by Wilson Uwujiaren, the organization's spokesperson.

According to Uwujiaren, 20 of the accused were detained in Kwara State and 13 were detained in Kaduna State.

He stated that in addition to the 12 suspects detained in Rivers, four suspects each were detained in Cross River and Akwa Ibom, while other suspects were detained in the states of Gombe, Sokoto, Kebbi, and Niger.

Ten men and three women were detained in Kaduna State. They were captured by EFCC agents who were either looking over intelligence reports or just happened to be observing.

"A man suspected of participating in vote buying was apprehended in Kaduna at School Road, Unguwan Rimi. The suspect, who at first resisted being taken into custody, is now being held while the investigation is being completed.

"A team also apprehended a suspect in Kaduna with voter coupons, which he said would be used to track down and bribe those who voted for his party," Uwujiaren said.

He stated that two individuals were also detained for vote-buying by the EFCC team that was monitoring voting near the Local Education Authority School in Kabala Doki, Kaduna.

The EFCC spokesperson stated that the suspects were found to have N67,500, a list of voter names, PVC numbers, and bank account information upon their detention.

He added that the results of the inquiry showed that the suspects' primary method of influencing eligible voters was by giving them cash, money transfers, vouchers, or recharge cards.

According to Uwujiaren, a search of their belongings and phones revealed that the majority of them had moved funds into the bank accounts of some of the voters on the lists they collected.

Voter cards, cash, lists of voter names and account numbers, and telephone recharge cards were among the materials seized from the suspects, he emphasised.
