Gunmen Kidnap INEC Officials In Imo State.

 By Michaels Monday

In Imo State, gunmen have kidnapped members of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), including Mrs. Achibie Ogbonne, the electoral officer for the Isu Local Government Area.

Also, they kidnapped a few collation officers and the returning officer as a state house of assembly exercise was taking place near the area on Saturday.

The election in Imo state, according to INEC spokesperson Chinenye Chijioke-Osuji, was peaceful and went off without a hitch until the collation period, when dishonest individuals, who were allegedly working with the local government area council, violently entered the local government council with tear gas and guns and drove everyone out.

She said that the office had been completely wrecked, with all the windows, the roof, the chairs, and the tables smashed, and that some staff members had managed to flee.

The development has been reported to security personnel, according to the INEC spokeswoman, for potential action.
