Bola Tinubu Declares, "As a Democrat, I'm Compelled to Accept Election Results" as Peter Obi Wins Lagos State.
Obi defeated the former governor of Lagos State, who received 572,606 votes, with a vote total of 582,454.
As a Democrat, Tinubu said he must accept the results of the just finished election in a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, director of media and publicity for the APC Presidential Campaign Council. He asserts that Peter Obi's triumph in the state exemplifies the virtues of democracy.
The former governor of Lagos State urged his supporters to remain peace and quiet, saying Obi's victory in Lagos shouldn't be a cause for unrest.
The statement read, "As a democrat he is required to accept the outcome of any election, whether favorable or not."
Following Obi's electoral victory in the state, Tinubu denounced the reported attacks on several traders of Igbo descent in the state.
"Violence should not occur because the APC barely lost Lagos State to another party. Democrats experience both wins and losses. While upholding calm and decorum, we must let the process proceed unimpeded throughout the nation, the statement stated.
